All-Star update: Price has 3rd inning, Rodney to close

Rays LHP David Price said he is set to pitch the third inning tonight, and Fernando Rodney said he's been told he'll be the AL closer.

Price said he is a little concerned about timing his warmup properly out of the bullpen.

"It is different coming out of that 'pen, you have to learn how to do it,'' he said. "I guess I (usually) use 25 minutes to get loose in the outfield; I'll be playing catch in the bullpen, so that's a little bit different, you don't have as much room to stretch out and do the normal things. But that's all right - there's a lot of guys that are probably doing this for the first time ever. So it's good.''

Price has some experience working in relief as a rookie for the Rays, including the postseason, but joked that's when he was young.

His plan tonight: "I just want to get my fastball ready, first and foremost. There's no telling what I'll do in the bullpen. Hopefully I can time it out right so I'm not down there throwing 50 pitches or 60 pitches or something. So i have to figure out how to do that. Hopefully (starter Justin) Verlander has some quick innings and we'll get this over with.''

Rodney is AL manager Ron Washington's choice to close, made easier with Texas' Joe Nathan unlikely to be available after a busy weekend.

"They told me that I've got it tonight, that I'm the man,'' Rodney said.

He is planning, of course, to shoot his celebratory arrow.
