Another injury issue: Lobaton has sore shoulder
The Rays could be scrambling for catching help as Jose Lobaton left Thursday's game with soreness in his shoulder.
Lobaton said he felt something in the back of his shoulder while throwing during the fifth inning and it continued to bother him, and he was taken out.
Lobaton was examined by a doctor on Thursday and could undergo further tests in Boston on Friday.
Any type of extended absence would be troubling for the Rays, as they have to limit the innings played by their other catcher, veteran Jose Molina. Stephen Vogt could be used, but the Rays feel he needs more work behind the plate.
If Lobaton goes on the DL, the Rays would either have to look to make a pickup, or turn to unproven Nevin Ashley or Craig Albernaz, who are both at Triple-A. Chris Gimenez, who has big-league experience, is on the DL at Triple-A with a groin strain.
