Bartlett gets $11-million for 2 years
UPDATE, 5:46: Bartlett will get $4-million for this season, $5.5-million for 2012 (when he otherwise would have been a free agent) and either a $5.5-million salary or a $1.5-million buyout in 2013.
DEVELOPING: Former Rays shortstop Jason Bartlett got the multi-year deal he was looking for from the Padres, avoiding arbitration with his new team by agreeing to a two-year deal for a reported $11-million, with a 2013 vesting option that could add another $4-million to the deal.
Bartlett was traded by the Rays to San Diego on Dec. 17 for four players, relievers Adam Russell, Cesar Ramos and Brandon Gomes, plus infielder Cole Figueroa. Russell and Ramos are expected to compete for jobs in the Rays bullpen this season.
Bartlett made $4-million last season and was projected to get around $5-million this season.
