Boggs part of group that purchases Field of Dreams
Hall of Famer Wade Boggs, a former Ray and current Tampa resident, is part of a group that has purchased the legendary eastern Iowa farm that sparked "The Field of Dreams."
According to the Dyersville Commercial (Iowa), Boggs' group, Go the Distance Baseball LLC, paid $3.4 million to Don and Becky Lansing for the 193-acre site that is largely cornfields, but also has a townhouse and, of course, the iconic baseball field the movie was made on.
The report states the land will be developed in a big way, erection of All-Star Ballpark Heaven, a youth baseball and softball complex that will feature 24 fields. Phase 1 of the project is expected to be completed in 2014.
Boggs is one of more than 10 investors, according to the report. They will be just the second owner of the field since the famed Kevin Costner movie debuted in 1989.
