Brignac out at least a few days with "nasty" foot issue
Reid Brignac's chances to win back the shortstop job may be derailed, or at least delayed, with news that he will be sidelined at least a few days due to a painful condition in his right foot that manager Joe Maddon described as "a plantar fasciitis kind of a thing.''
Brignac will be out at least several more days, manager Joe Maddon said, and his chances to be ready for the start of the season could be impacted. "He'snot going to be able to play for a couple more days at least,'' Maddon said. "I don't know exactly how long it's going to take. ... I'm not sure yet, that's really one of those things as I said, the next couple days are going to tell that tale. He'll start moving around, walking around, (head athletic trainer Ron Porterfield) will come back to me and say exactly what he sees with that and how long it's going to take. It's truly one of those things you don't know the answer to right off the bat.''
Further, Maddon said: "That's just a nasty little injury. You've just got to treat it, and eventually, I guess, it rips, and when it rips then you have to treat it at that particular moment, too. But for right now that's what he's got going on. It's awkward, it's one of the most
awkward injuries I've ever heard about. There's no definitive way to treat it, you're going to be in pain, you can still run on it, it's still going to hurt, you know that. And then you have to wait for the sheath to rip, for it to heal itself. So it's just a weird position.''
