Brotherly traditions

This is the sixth year that brothers Mike and Kevin Mullane have attended the World Series, partly because of a friend with MLB connections who helped them get $100 tickets, the cheapest face-value price.

So Kevin, 44, of Chicago, and Mike, 48, of Racine, Wis., spent part of today buying World Series memorabilia and sharing a beer at Ferg's, the sports bar closest to Tropicana Field. They plan to fly to Philadelphia for the games there this weekend.

It's not clear if they will return to St. Pete for the potential sixth and seventh games.

"We work for a living," Mike Mullane explained.

Season ticket holders and brothers Rob and Mark Helmling also were taking the day off work and picking up Rays World Series ball caps in preparation for tonight's game.

"As a baseball fan and a resident of St. Petersburg, it doesn't get any better than this," Rob Helmling said.
