Chirinos optioned, Jaso coming back

The Rays optioned C Robinson Chirinos to Triple-A Durham and will bring C John Jaso back from his rehab assignment Friday, earlier than expected. Jaso has been out since the All-Star break with a strained oblique.

Chirinos was called up after the original replacement, Jose Lobaton, got hurt in his first start. Chirinos hit .218 in 20 games with one homer and 7 RBIs.

Jaso hit .300 in six rehab games for Durham.

Also, the Rays said RHP Alex Cobb has "successful" surgery in Dallas to removed  a blockage from his subclavian vein and will return to St. Petersburg next week.
