City of St. Pete to kick off Rays home opener with lunchtime street party
ST. PETERSBURG - Yankees fans, beware. Downtown St. Petersburg will be dominated by Tampa Bay Rays-mania this coming Monday, April 13, as the city hosts a block party to celebrate the season home opener against New York.
Fans visiting the Central Avenue block between 2nd and 3rd Streets on their lunch hour (between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.) will be able to get Raymond's autograph, collect free stuff and play interactive games. Hot dogs, lemonade and other ballgame fare will be for sale, and a live band will play classic and pop rock covers.
For those heading to the sold-out game later that night, the Looper Baseball Trolley will offer free service from downtown to Tropicana Field, with shuttles departing every 10 minutes beginning at 5 p.m. until one hour after the game is over. The shuttle will pick up passengers on 2nd Street between Central Avenue and First Avenue S (beneath the Bank of America pedestrian bridge) and drop passengers off at Tropicana Field on First Avenue S. and 16th Street,
