Cobb to DL, Ramos recalled
UPDATE, 12:36: Maddon said the Rays will revert back to a five-man rotation for now, though would likely call up a starter to work on, or the day after, the Aug. 16 doubleheader in Boston.
He said they expect Cobb to be able to return later this season, though they are not sure what is wrong: "We're going to shut him down until we feel very comfortable that he's okay and we don't anticipate anything negative long term. I'm just glad we kinda nipped it in the bud right now and we can move forward.''
UPDATE, 12:05: Ramos is here in the clubhouse.
UPDATE, 11:00: Cobb says tests for blood clots were negative but they don't know what's wrong, and he is hoping couple days rest helps: "Something's not right." Cobb says he doesn't have feeling for ball in hand, but arm overall doesn't feel right, "like a dead-arm" feeling.
DEVELOPING: The Rays put RHP Alex Cobb on the 15-day DL today as a result of the "discomfort" he experienced in his right hand during Saturday's game, though a team official said tests performed at St. Anthony's Hospital on Saturday night ruled out anything serious.
LHP Cesar Ramos, who was optioned to Triple-A Durham during the late-July bullpen shuffle, has been recalled and is expected to be here for today's game.
The Rays have not yet said what is wrong with Cobb, though indications Saturday night were that the problem was more lilely to be vascular, such as a blood clot, than structural.
Cobb was not admitted to the hospital, according to the team, and is expected believed to be at the Trop today.
