Crawford in tight All-Star race
Carl Crawford is in a tight race for the third and final starting spot in the American League All-Star outfield with voting concluding at 11:59 Thursday night.
Crawford has a slim lead over Texas' Nelson Cruz, 1,782,035-1,621,771. Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki (1,924,904) and Texas' Josh Hamilton (1,906,350) look to have the top two spots secured.
Rays 3B Evan Longoria has 3,118,600 votes - third most overall - and a huge lead over New York's Alex Rodriguez. Among other Rays, Jason Bartlett is fourth at shortstop while 1B Carlos Pena and 2B Ben Zobrist are fifth.
Also, Bill Criswell of Windemere was chosen the Rays representative for the All-Stars Among Us campaign recognizing people who serve their communities. Criswell established Home at Last, a program that gives U.S. soldiers injured in Iraq a fresh start with mortgage-free homes. Criswell and 29 other winners will be honored during a pre-game ceremony at the July 13 All-Star Game in Anaheim.
