Damon X-rays shows no break; could return in couple days
Preliminary x-rays of Johnny Damon's bruised left hand did not show a break, and both Damon and manager Joe Maddon said he could return in a few days and is unlikely to go on the DL.
"No chance,'' Damon said. "I can't. If I go on the DL my career is close to being over. So I can't think about that.''
Damon said if the swelling goes down and he can grib a bat, he'll try to play Thursday. Maddon suggested Saturday is more likely, with Friday a possibility.
"(Head athletic trainer Ron Porterfield) thinks it's goign to be okay in a couple days, so it's definitley a day to day thing,' Maddon said. "We'll re-evaluate tomorrow. But for right now there's a chance, more than likely not tomorrow, but maybe the day after that, or Saturday, that he'd be able to play.''
Said Damon: "He got me pretty good, probably the worst I've got it in my career and I've taken one off the face before. this one got me pretty good.''
