Davis' off-day: Bear down
Rays RHP Wade Davis had a successful off-day Thursday, going bear hunting with several staff members and getting one - estimated at 300 pounds and 6 feet - with his crossbow.
"I got lucky," Davis said. "It was a great time, a great way to unwind." Davis is somewhat of an outdoorsman, but said this was his first bear. His largest target before Thursday was a 300-pound hog.
"A perfect shot," bench coach Dave Martinez said. "He had great control."
The group went to Buck Lake Outfitters in Huntsville, Ont., about two hours from Toronto. Also hunting were travel director Jeff Ziegler and home clubhouse equipment manager Chris Westmoreland. RHP Jeff Niemann went along with Davis but didn't hunt.
