Davis wins AL Rookie of Month award, Soriano top Delivery Man
Rays RHP Wade Davis named AL Rookie of the Month after going 4-0, 3.03 in five starts.
"It's cool," Davis said. "It was a good month. Now I have to go out and win another one, or a couple more."
Also, closer Rafael Soriano was named MLB Delivery Man of the Month.
Davis is the fourth Rays player to win the award, joining Rocco Baldelli (April and May 2003), Damon Hollins (May 2005) and Evan Longoria (June 2008). He is the first pitcher to win the award this season.
At 9-9, Davis leads all AL rookies in wins and on Thursday could make the Rays the first team in the majors with five starters with 10 or more wins.
Soriano, who shares the major-league lead with San Francisco's Brian Wilson with 31 saves, recorded a major league-best 11 saves during July while posting a 2.57 ERA in 14 games, and made his first All-Star appearance. He also won the Delivery Man of the Month Award in May. Since July 1, 2009, Soriano's 52 saves are most in the majors.
