E. Johnson is next to go
In another move that was more a matter of timing than anything else, the Rays told INF Elliot Johnson he didn't make the team and was removed from the 40-man roster. Johnson, who is out of options, is going through waivers, and if he clears could end up at Triple-A Durham anyway.
"I just thanked them for my opportunity,'' Johnson said. "They gave me my first shot so I'll always remember that. I was appreciative for everything they had done for me over the span. It doesn't necessarily mean that we're done, we're just done for now. We'll see what happens after this.''
Johnson acknowledged that the uncertainty of his situation may have impacted his play as he hit .267 and struck out 18 times. "I didn't play really all that great; I know I can play a whole lot better,'' Johnson said. "It was a stressful spring; you feel like every time you go out there you go out there you've got to do something to show these people you want to stay here. And they knew that. Anybody that's been in this situation can tell you it's a little bit different than what you're used to. But it's part of it, and we'll see what happens down the road.''
