Elliot Johnson sent to Royals as PTBNL
UPDATE, 3:15: Johnson said he was excited about the opportunity to join the Royals, and that they plan for him to not only be a backup in the infield but to get a lot of time in the outfield. Also to have spring training in Arizona, where he grew up and much of his family still lives.
As for being dealt: "It's kind of a weird feeling. You always see it happen to other guys but it's kind of hard to describe when it happens to you.''
DEVELOPING: INF Elliot Johnson was sent to the Royals as the player to be named later in the big James Shields/Wil Myers trade,
Johnson was designated for assignment last week as the Rays cleared roster space for the additions of Kelly Johnson and Kyle Farnsworth.
Johnson, 29, had been in the Rays organization for 11 seasons, spending the last two in the majors, mostly in a reserve role.
