End of the road
The Rays wrap up the seven-game roadtrip Sunday in Minnesota looking to give a better effort than in Saturday's 12-5 loss. Rocco Baldelli's post-game comments were most telling - and admirably direct - when he said:
""I just don’t think we came ready to play today. Maybe I’m missing someone, but I don’t think there’s one guy who came to the field ready to go and have a good effort. Obviously we went out there and tried, but that wasn’t anywhere near going to be good enough or acceptable. There’s no explanation for it. It’s just bad baseball.’’
Manager Joe Maddon has a different look to his lineup today, sticking to his plan to use reserves Brendan Harris and Jonny Gomes, though he has Gomes batting ninth. He also sat down B.J. Upton, who had a sloppy game Saturday, moving Ty Wigginton to second and sticking with Carlos Pena at first.
