Game day report, vs. Orioles

UPDATE, 4:41: Jennings had x-rays of his elbow, and the Rays said they showed no problems. However, his elbow is still swollen and it's unclear when he will be able to return to the field.

UPDATE, 10:38: Actually, Jennings is going to miss some time, at least one day, Maddon said. "Sore, really sore today, definitely no activity for today. He's just going to work on getting the swelling down. It's all good, it's just sore and it did balloon up a bit.'' Maddon said Jennings will be checked by a doctor, but he wasn't aware of any planned X-rays. ... Also, B.J. Upton was among several players who aren't in today's game who worked on the back fields today and not with the full group.

UPDATE, 9:38: Here is the Orioles lineup, which isn't exactly packed with big names, but has a couple of familiar ones - ex-Ray Ty Wigginton is playing and Mark Hendrickson is scheduled to pitch in relief.
Pie, cf
Andino, ss
Montanez, rf
Wigginton, 3b
Moore, dh
Salazar, lf
Snyder, 1b
Tatum, c
Davis, 2b
Matusz, p

UPDATE, 9:22: LHP Jake McGee said he was scheduled to pitch Wednesday, but just before the game pitching coach Jim Hickey told him he'd only be used if they ran out of pitchers because they preferred he pitch at home. Didn't stop the PA guy from announcing him when Jason Cromer came into the game.

UPDATE, 9:07: Top OF prospect Desmond Jennings said his left elbow, swollen and sore after being hit by a pitch Wednesday, is okay and shouldn't limit him. Jennings is wearing a sleeve with a pad over the elbow. "I should be all right,'' he said. "It's a little bit (sore), but not bad.''

DEVELOPING: The Rays are preparing for today's home opener at Charlotte Sports Park, with tickets still available.

Here is the lineup for today's game, with a couple things to look for - Carlos Pena taking his first swings in a game since a CC Sabathia pitch broke two fingers in his left hand last September, Kelly Shoppach's first time behind the plate as a Ray and Sean Rodriguez's play at shortstop:

Kapler, rf
Crawford, lf
Longoria, 3b
Pena, 1b
Burrell, dh
Rodriguez, ss
Shoppach, c
Brignac, 2b
Perez, cf
Niemann, p

Also, it looks like at least a couple of the Rays big names will make the trip to Tampa for Friday's game vs. the Yankees, with Longoria, B.J. Upton, Jason Bartlett and Ben Zobrist among those on the travel squad.
