Gameday live: Rays at Jays

26

March

The Rays beat the Jays 14-10 in Dunedin. RHP Wade Davis bounced back after a rough start, giving up four runs in 5 2/3 innings. B.J. Upton had two hits, including a two run homer, and Evan Longoria went 3 for 3 with his third homer of the spring.

Update 3:50p.m:
RHP Andy Sonnanstine, making his first relief appearance since learning he'd be in the bullpen, has given up four runs (on four hits) in two innings.

Update 3:23 p.m: Wade Davis was able to bounce back from a rough start, finishing his outing having gone 5 2/3 innings, giving up four runs, 10 hits, with three strikeouts and two walks.

Rays 14, Jays 4

Update 2:50 p.m: The Rays have added five more runs here in the sixth, including a two-run double by OF Matt Sweeney (who was acquired in the LHP Scott Kazmir trade).

One Jays fan yelled, "Bring out the white flag!"

Rays 14, Jays 4

Update 2:28 p.m. CF B.J. Upton hit another well-struck ball off the leftfield wall for an RBI double. Kelly Shoppach also added a two-run double that scored Evan Longoria, who is 3-for-3.

Hank Blalock added a sacrifice fly.

Rays 9, Jays 4 (top fifth)

Update 2:19 p.m. After a rough first two innings, when Wade Davis threw a combined 51 pitches, he's settled down and thrown two scoreless innings (on just 19 pitches).

Rays 5, Jays 4

Update 1:58 p.m. CF B.J. Upton just gave the Rays the lead back with a two-run homer in the third, giving him five RBI in his last three games.

Rays 5, Jays 4

Update 1:50 p.m. The second inning for Wade Davis isn't going very well either; though he retired the first two batters, he then gave up a single, walk and RBI double (the fourth extra-base hit Davis has surrendered today).

He only got out of the inning because Evan Longoria made a great catch, lunging into the stands in foul territory to grab a pop up by Chris Lubanski, flipping over the rail (getting held up by Jason Bartlett).

Jays 4, Rays 3

Update 1:26 p.m. A rough start for RHP Wade Davis, who has given up four hits (including a three-run homer) in the first inning, as the Jays have tied it up.

Other than the four hits, Davis also walked two before getting out of the inning.

Rays 3, Jays 3

Update 1:12 p.m. The Rays have jumped on Jays Opening Day starter Shaun Marcum, including a two-run homer by Evan Longoria (his third homer this spring).

Jason Bartlett got it started with a double, was moved over on a sacrifice bunt by Carl Crawford, and scored on a Gabe Kapler single.

Rays 3, Jays 0

We're live in Dunedin for the Rays game against the Jays.

Some things to watch will be RHP Wade Davis, making his first start since getting named the team's fifth starter. Manager Joe Maddon feels he'll be more relaxed now, having all the uncertainty behind him. RHP Andy Sonnanstine will also pitch, and reliever RHP Lance Cormier will throw on back-to-back days for the first time this spring.
