Gameday live: Rays (ss) at Twins
UPDATE, 3:51: Rays lose 12-3, and it was uglier than the score indicated. Bench coach/manager for the day Dave Martinez summed it up best: "After the second inning, I was like, "Come on, rain." ''
UPDATE, 3:29: Twins lead 12-3 going to the ninth.
UPDATE, 2:55: The rain appears to be coming soon and the Rays are coming back, scoring two to start the seventh, though still down 9-3.
UPDATE, 2:40: The Twins built the lead to 9-0 in the fourth before the Rays got on the board with a home run by Matt Joyce in the sixth.
UPDATE, 1:58: Davis' bad day continues as he allows two more singles and a two-run double by Thome that would have been a homer if not knocked down by the wind. In 2 IP, he's allowed 9 hits and 7 runs.
UPDATE, 1:49: It's not just Davis, as the Rays are playing sloppy behind him. 1B Hank Blalock also dropped a pop-up, and the Johnsons (Dan at third, Elliot at second) failed to turn a double play.
UPDATE, 1:32: Davis allowed six straight hits before getting Nick Punto looking at strike three for the second out, then Denard Span flied out to end the inning. It didn't help Davis that 3B Dan Johnson couldn't hold onto a wind-blown popup by Justin Morneau early in the rally. Twins leads 5-0 after one.
UPDATE, 1:27: RHP Wade Davis isn't starting well - allows a one-out walk then four consecutive singles, all well-struck, and then an opposite-field double to Delmon Young. Rays are down 4-0 already.
UPDATE, 1:06: Underway here before a large crowd in Fort Myers, word that the heavy rains won't hit until around 4 p.m. The Twins have the day off tomorrow, so they'll be in hurry to get this one in anyway.
DEVELOPING: There's some clouds forming here in Fort Myers, but the forecast looks to be okay for the game. The Twins are running out their big names; also there was news Sunday that closer Joe Nathan will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the season.
