Gameday live: Rays vs. Pirates
UPDATE, 3:55: Rays win 8-2 as Choate finishes it, shaky defense behind him aside.
UPDATE, 3:42: It's 8-1 going to the ninth as Rays close in on 17th win of spring, one shy of franchise record (2008).
UPDATE, 3:16: Garza would appear to be done after allowing just four hits over seven innings, walking one (which makes it just four for the spring) and striking out 7 (which gives him 21 in 22 2/3 innings).
UPDATE, 3:05: Mass substitution for Rays, many of them minor-leaguers, but Garza is on mound to start the 7th. Rays lead 8-1.
UPDATE, 2:34: Garza has his third 1-2-3 inning, Rays lead 8-1 going to bottom of 5th.
UPDATE, 2:20: Another quick inning for Garza, who has allowed three hits through four.
UPDATE, 2:11: The Rays opened the lead to 7-1 as Sean Rodriguez singled in one run, and they got another when Alvin Colina blooped a single. Rodriguez did a good job getting out of a run down as well.
UPDATE, 2:09: Gabe Kapler's safety squeeze bunt didn't carry far enough, and Pat Burrell was thrown out as he slid into the plate, the bat and catcher Ryan Doumit.
UPDATE, 2:04: After Crawford opened the third with a double, Zobrist crushed a ball to right that landed in the bullpen beyond the rightfield fence to make it 5-1 Rays.
UPDATE, 1:55: And now a diving catch of a wicked line drive by Jason Bartlett to end the inning.
UPDATE, 1:53: Nice running catch by Carl Crawford just shy of the wall to rob Delwyn Young of extra bases.
UPDATE, 1:49: It's 3-1 Rays going to the third, as the Rays got two on in the second - Gabe Kapler singled off a righty and Sean Rodriguez dropped down a perfect bunt for a hit - but didn't score as Alvin Colina flied out and Bartlett grounded into a double play.
UPDATE, 1:35: Garza was a strike away from a second 1-2-3 inning, but allowed a full-count homer to Jeff Clement.
UPDATE, 1:22: Carlos Pena, who had two hits Saturday, follows with a home-run to left-center (his second of the spring) and it's 3-0 Rays.
UPDATE, 1:20: Garza has a strong first inning, blowing a fastball by Delwyn Young, and the Rays already have the lead as Carl Crawford walked and Ben Zobrist, hitting again in the 3-hole, tripled to right-center.
DEVELOPING: Just about ready to go here in Port Charlotte, but beating the rain may be more of an issue than the Pirates as the skies are dark and the forecast threatening.
