Update 5:03 p.m: The Rays and Red Sox finish in a 9-9 tie.

Update 4:05 p.m: Greg Sexton gave the Rays the lead back in the eighth with a two-out RBI single to score Reid Brignac.

Rays 9, Red Sox 8

Update 4:00 p.m: The Red Sox scored one run off bullpen hopeful Heath Rollins in the eighth to tie it at 8-8.

Update 3:40 p.m: The Rays rallied to take the lead in the seventh, scoring four runs off Red Sox hard-throwing RHP Daniel Bard. Elliot Johnson hit a two-run single, and Joe Dillon knocked in the go-ahead run when his long fly ball to left got caught up in the wind and dropped for a double.

Update 3:37 p.m: RHP Heath Rollins, a longshot candidate for the final bullpen spot, got himself out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh, thanks to a 5-4-3 double play.

Update 2:56 p.m: RHP Lance Cormier finished up two solid innings, striking out Jason Varitek and Adrian Beltre, with his only mistake a solo homer by Josh Reddick.

Red Sox 7, Rays 4 (top sixth).

Update 2:44 p.m After SS Jason Bartlett beat out an infield single with two outs in the fifth, LF Carl Crawford picked up an RBI single.

Update 2:21 p.m 1B Carlos Pena came through with a bases-loaded, two-run single in the third to cut the Red Sox lead.

Update 2:02 p.m. RHP Rafael Soriano is in a bit of trouble in the third, giving up a bloop double and then a two-run double by Tug Hulett.

Anthony Rizzo then hit a two-run homer over the rightfield fence.

Update 1:55 p.m. Benoit finished his outing after throwing two innings, giving up two hits, two runs while striking out five and walking one.

RHP Rafael Soriano has come in to pitch the third.

Update 1:11 p.m. RHP Joaquin Benoit is the latest to not make a sterling impression for the final bullpen spot, starting today's game by hitting Mike Cameron and walking Bill Hall, throwing six straight balls.

After striking out Jason Varitek, he gave up a two-run triple to Adrian Beltre.

Developing: We're live here in Port Charlotte, where the Rays will host the Red Sox.

RHP Joaquin Benoit, battling for the final bullpen spot, will get the start. RHP closer Rafael Soriano and Andy Sonnanstine are also scheduled to appear.
