Gameday live: Rays at Yankees



UPDATE, 9:58 The Rays lose 6-4 to the Yankees.

UPDATE, 9:48 Justin Ruggiano led off the eighth with a triple, and scored on an error.

UPDATE, 9:34 The Yankees nearly added on in the seventh, putting two runners on, but Justin Ruggiano made a nice running catch in left-center gap to prevent ex-Ray Jon Weber from an extra base hit.

UPDATE, 9:25 Yankees OF Colin Curtis hit a three-run homer off Jeff Bennett in the sixth to give New York a 5-3 lead.

UPDATE, 9:00: Major changes for the Rays in the middle of the sixth, with all starters but Navarro out. Jeff Bennett is on the mound.

UPDATE, 8:50: Rays still lead 3-2, as Pena starts a nice 3-6-3 double play to end the fifth, with Heath Rollins on the mound. Hernandez, who is likely headed back to Durham as insurance, went three innings, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six.

UPDATE, 8:30: The Rays loaded the bases on a single by Pat Burrell, a walk by Dioner Navarro and a single by Jason Bartlett, then took the lead when Burrell scored on another passed ball by Posada. Rays lead 3-2.

UPDATE, 8:19: B.J. Upton just misses another opposite field homer as the ball short-hops the RF wall, gets a triple, then scores on a passed ball ot make it 2-2.

UPDATE, 8:12:
Hernandez gets out of the jam, with two strikeouts and a ground ball, but he's over 60 pitches through three innings.

UPDATE, 8:05: Carlos Hernandez is struggling, walking the first two to start the Yankees third.

UPDATE, 7:59: The Rays threatened in the third, with Carl Crawford stealing second against Jorge Posada, but Pena's check-swing groundout stranded two. It's still 2-1 Yankees.

UPDATE, 7:46: After  a leadoff walk and a two-out single by Ramiro Pena, Derek Jeter doubles over the head of CF Derek Jeter and the Yankees take a 2-1 lead.

UPDATE, 7:40: Carlos Hernandez is on the mound for his second inning for the Rays.

UPDATE, 7:30: After a scoreless first inning, the Rays take the lead as Carlos Pena snaps his 0-for-21 spring-starting slump with a homer to rightfield on a 3-2 pitch by Javier Vazquez.

DEVELOPING: A little delayed due to some technical issues, but we are now live at Steinbrenner Field.
