Garza trade rumors appear to be just that - rumors

Rays righthander Matt Garza has often been a subject of trade rumors throughout this offseason, and that included a recent report by the Chicago-Sun Times that Tampa Bay may be close to dealing him to the Cubs.

However, there has been no indication the Rays have changed their position, that they're not looking to trade any of their six starting pitchers right now unless they are overwhelmed by an offer.

Garza has been linked in trade rumors involving the Rangers and Cubs, to name a few, this offseason. Tampa Bay does have an amount of depth in the rotation, returning the five from last season (Garza, David Price, James Shields, Jeff Niemann, Wade Davis), as well as Jeremy Hellickson.

But executive VP Andrew Friedman has said they can never have enough good starting pitching. And the club has been fortunate over the past couple years not to be hit hard with a lot of injuries in their rotation.

There's probably going to be more rumors throughout this offseason, as Garza likely will draw interest from a lot of teams. But, as of right now, it appears unlikely anything is imminent on that front.
