Greene joins staff
The Rays officially announced the hiring of Todd Greene as quality assurance coach, replacing Tim Bogar, who was hired by the Red Sox.
Greene, 37, played 11 seasons in the majors, coming up with the Angels when Rays manager Joe Maddon was a coach. Greene also played for the Blue Jays, Yankees, Rangers, Rockies and Giants, spending most of his time behind the plate.
With the Rays, Greene will handle many of the game-day organizational and self-scouting responsibilities that Bogar did, and will also provide catching instruction.
