Hellickson leads Rays to 3-0 start

The Rays completed their season-opening sweep of the Yankees with a 3-0 victory Sunday at Tropicana Field.

Jeremy Hellickson, pitching on his 25th birthday, pitched 8 2/3 innings, allowing only three hits, and Fernando Rodney finished.

Carlos Pena and Jeff Keppinger homered for the Rays, and Matt Joyce tripled in Evan Longoria, who had doubled.

With Sunday's attendance of 30,413, the series drew 98,569, third highest in Rays franchise history for the opening series.

The only other time the Rays started 3-0 was 2002, when they went on to lose a franchise worst 106 games. And the last time the Yankees started 0-3 was 1998, when they went on to win an MLB-most 114 games and the World Series.
