Howell set to rejoin bullpen; foot pain was gout
LHP J.P. Howell said he will be back in the bullpen on Friday night in Houston and ready to pitch as the pain in his left foot was diagnosed as gout rather than anything wrong structurally.
Howell left the team Wednesday to have what manager Joe Maddon said was a “very sore” foot examined in St. Petersburg by Dr. Koco Eaton.
“Definitely can pitch Friday,’’ Howell wrote in a text message.
