An interesting minor-league sign: Matt Bush
The Rays signed RHP Matt Bush, the former No. 1 overall pick of the Padres in 2004, to a minor-league contract.
Bush, 24, failed to get above Class A as a shortstop and was converred to pitching in 2007, then needed Tommy John surgery. He was traded to the Blue Jays last year and released.
Bush has had a number of on- and off-field issues, including several incidents of alcohol-related assaults and vandalism. He told a judge last year his problems were the result of alcohol abuse, for which he was undergo a 120-day residential treatment as part of a sentencing that included probation and community service.
He will report to the Rays minor-league camp in March.
