Isringhausen placed on 60-day disabled list

It doesn't look good for RHP Jason Isringhausen.

The Rays placed the veteran reliever on the 60-day disabled list with an injury to his surgically-repaired right elbow, suffered in the ninth inning of Saturday's game. (They needed to make a corresponding 40-man roster move to make room for RHP Winston Abreu).

Manager Joe Maddon said Isringhausen had an elbow strain, and he will get an MRI Monday, but it appears the 36-year-old is out for quite a while.

It begs the question whether Isringhausen may have thrown his last pitch in his impressive major league career.

Isringhausen entered Saturday's game ranked fifth among active pitchers (22nd all time) in career saves with 293. The two-time All Star signed in the offseason as a free agent, rehabbing from surgery that ended last season with the Cardinals.
