Jennings appears headed to DL, Vogt likely replacement
The Rays appear on the verge of a decision to put LF Desmond Jennings on the 15-day DL due to his left knee sprain.
The likely replacement would be Stephen Vogt, who opened the season in the majors and then was sent down to Triple-A. Vogt, who was 0-for-13 during his stint with the Rays, hasn't put up good numbers at Durham either, hitting .214 with 1 homer and 8 RBIs in 19 games.
But Vogt has the benefit of being on the 40-man roster; if the Rays were to turn instead to a minor-league veteran such as Jesus Feliciano, they would have to take someone off the roster to make room.
An announcement is expected by the end of the night tonight or first thing Tuesday.
Jennings has been out of the lineup for seven games since spraining his knee on May 6. He pinch-hit on Friday, so a DL move could only be backdated to Saturday, May 12, meaning the first day he could return would be May 27.
