Keppinger absence due to divorce hearing
INF Jeff Keppinger's absence from the Rays, and placement on the restricted list, is related to his ongoing divorce case.
According to court records in Georgia, Keppinger had a mediation hearing scheduled in Gwinnett County this afternoon. The divorce case with his wife, Morgan, has been ongoing since November, and involves custody issues as well.
Manager Joe Maddon said the Rays wouldn't know until tonight or Thursday morning whether Keppinger would re-join them Thursday in New York or Friday in Baltimore. OF Brandon Guyer was called up to take Keppinger's place, potentially just for the one game.
According to the court filing, the case it set to go before a judge on May 29, when the Rays are at home facing the White Sox.
