Keppinger another candidate for bench job

Add Jeff Keppinger to the list of potential candidates if the Rays opt to add another right-handed hitter to their roster.

ESPN"s Jerry Crasnick reported Monday that the Rays are among several teams Keppinger, who was non-tendered by the Giants, is talking with. Keppinger, 31, hit .277 with a .300 on-base percentage and .377 slugging percentage in 99 games for the Astros and Giants last season. The Giants let him go when they decided to instead keep Mike Fontenot, and cited Fontenot's better ability to play shortstop.

The Rays have also had talks with Ryan Theriot, and are reported to have interest in Edgar Renteria.
