Leaving from Nashville: Clarity, nothing imminent

Top Rays officials are staying over in Nashville tonight to attend the minor-league awards banquet where farm director Mitch Lukevics will be honored.

But otherwise most of their work here is done, as they added 1B James Loney and SS Yunel Escobar, and got a much better idea of what else is possible in terms of additions (seeking a power bat in some form) and trades, specifically from their stash of pitching.

Executive VP Andrew Friedman said they would spend some time tonight catching up on and talking through things, then head home Friday and start plotting their course.

"I think things have definitely narrowed down for us from what we're looking for on the offensive side and also the different pitching deals that may or may not make sense,'' Friedman said. "That was the goal coming into this week, to get a better understanding of different trades that we might be able to make and might not, and how that fits into what our strategy is on the free-agent market.

"At the very least we have more clarity. I wouldn't say anything is imminent. But we just have more clarity on how we might be able to complete this offseason looking out over the next 6-8 weeks.''
