Live from Port Charlotte: Afternoon update
LHP J.P. Howell also showed up this afternoon, looking fit (after adding nearly 30 pounds of mostly muscle) and saying his surgically repaired left shoulder is feeling good. Howell is optimistic he will be back soon, hopefully by late April. The Rays are eager to have him, but say they will have to wait and see how he progresses before setting a timetable.
Also, the second edition of the Hot Stove radio show airs tonight at 7 on 620-AM WDAE, with manager Joe Maddon and hitting coach Derek Shelton as guests. Andy Freed and Dave Wills are the hosts.
Maddon and executive VP Andrew Friedman will meet with the coaching staff on Tuesday, then hold their annual pre-spring press conference at 1 p.m.
