UPDATE, 11:03: After gathering around and loistening to manager Joe Maddon, executive VP Andrew Friedman and other team officials talk for about 45 minutes, the Rays got up and started their first full workout of the spring. And after stretching and playing catch, one of the first things they did was get the top infielders to take ground balls on the new AstroTurf half-field, the same surface that was just installed at the Trop.
For what it's worth, Dan Johnson and Casey Kotchman were at first, Sean Rodriguez and Felipe Lopez at second, Reid Brignac and Elliot Johnson at short and Evan Longoria and Ben Zobrist at third.
Maddon talked the longest, about 15 minutes at the start, and said it went well. Among the topics he touched on were that batters need to run hard to first base and pitchers need to field their position, and also that the focus should be on the players that are here and not those who left.
Travel director Jeff Ziegler, as usual, broke the group up with a joke.
The final position players reported as well - Daniel Mayora and Joe Inglett.
DEVELOPING: Just about all the players have been around over the last week, but today is the first time they will be all together on the field, as the Rays start full-squad workouts.
Manager Joe Maddon plans to address the team, with a different spin than the speech he gave the pitchers and catchers last week, which focused on opportunity.
The only two players who had not reported early were non-roster INFs Joe Inglett (who signed Friday) and Daniel Mayora.
