The Rays are headed out for an early and abbreviated workout this morning, and with an interesting twist - a 9 a.m. intrasquad game - and only 2 1/2 innings at that - that includes two players with 2,500-plus hits, Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez. "That's crazy,'' said LHP J.P. Howell.
Most of the regulars are in the lineup for the game, which is designed primarily for game-speed work on bunt plays.
Also, Howell will throw a bullpen session today.
Saturday's exhibition opener provides the first look at the lineup possibilites manager Joe Maddon will consider and both Damon and Ramirez are scheduled to play.
