Lobaton on deck?
C Jose Lobaton has been called up according to several Spanish-language web sites. No confirmation yet from the Rays.
They have an open roster spot for at least four days, as RHP Alex Cobb is expected to be recalled to start Tuesday vs. the Yankees. Since OF Brandon Guyer was just sent back down (and can't be recalled for 10 days unless there is an injury) and OF Desmond Jennings is on the DL at Triple-A (fractured right index finger), Lobaton was apparently the next choice.
Lobaton, 26, is hitting .293 with 8 homers and 31 RBIs at Triple-A Durham, with a .410 on-base percentage, and is a switch-hitter, so it's possible he could stick around and John Jaso could be sent down. He has 7 games experience with the Padres in 2009, and has been called up before but didn't get in.
