Longoria to start rehab Thursday in Montgomery, rejoin Rays on Tuesday

3B Evan Longoria will start his rehab assignment on Thursday in Double-A Montgomery, with plans for him to play four games in five days and then rejoin the Rays on Tuesday at home.

Longoria, out since April 2 with a strained left oblique, took batting practice in the cage Tuesday afternoon, and then played catch in the hallway with Sean Rodriguez, and reported no problems.

The plan is for him to get about 15 at-bats, and he is expected to head leadoff for the Biscuits to increase his reps.

The Rays plays the Angels Friday-Sunday, then are off Monday before opening a series with the Jays on Tuesday.
