Longoria's international adventure

22

April

UPDATE, 6:14: Maddon said Longoria will pay some type of penance. "He probably owes somebody or all of us some kind of a meal or something,'' Maddon said. "We'll figure out something. Maybe, what's his latest commercial? (Pepsi Max). ... We'll figure out something. There's got to be some kind of due punishment. I'll talk to the boys and see what they think.'' .. Maddon said they likely would have waited for any other player, as well as bullpen coach Bobby Ramos.

DEVELOPING: The Rays were delayed an additional 35-45 minutes leaving St. Pete-Clearwater airport for Toronto Thursday night because 3B Evan Longoria forgot to bring his passport.

And if that wasn't embarassing enough, Longoria had to explain it publicly because LHP David Price shared the news on Twitter. ("Tweeted it? Really?'' Longoria said to Price.)

"First roadtrip of the year (for him) into Toronto, I packed everything, I was up early, took my dog for a walk and just didn't even think about bringing my passport,'' Longoria said.

And when he was asked for it boarding the charter flight Thursday, "That was the first time I thought about it.''

And how did that feel to know the entire traveling party waiting on him? "It wasn't good,'' he said.

Longoria called a friend who was able to go to his Tampa apartment, get the passport and bring it over. "It was a hassle,'' Longoria said. "I said, "Thank God I'm not a rookie,"  because they would have just left me and said stay back and figure it out. I was actually thinking if somebody couldn't go and get it of staying back since I'm not going to play here and meet the team in Minnesota. But it worked out all right. I had to call in a favor.''

Price found the whole episode amusing, evidenced by his willingness to share. "That's the face of baseball,'' Price said. "He's fine.''

Price said he will expect some type of payment from Longoria to compensate for the delay. "He at least owes me a shirt of my choice whenever we go shopping,'' Price said. "Friendship dues.''
