Of Longo's hair, Howell's music tastes, tall pitchers and Price's 'aim'
Fashion statement of the day
3B Evan Longoria showed up with about 10 additional pounds of muscle (up to 225), a new national TV commercial for Gillette and an even longer version of his mullet-style haircut. "He looks strong. He looks very strong," manager Joe Maddon said. "It might be the hairdo. I don't know. And he's a young gun right now, too, don't forget."
LHP J.P. Howell decided the clubhouse was too quiet, so he bought a sound system that will hook up to his iPod. And that means it's going to get loud given the reliever's preferences for hip-hop and rap. "Kind of ghetto, kind of gangstaa — with two a's — and maybe some hardcore," Howell said. "It's been quiet. It's weird; not my flavor; not anyone's flavor. We didn't get to the post doing that."
Quote of the day
"Good location. Great aim. And good velocity, too."
LHP David Price, on his "performance" providing a urine sample for Thursday's drug test
Prank of the day — revenge edition
RHP Wade Davis flipped the script early Thursday, replacing the tape RHP Kyle Farnsworth put on the carpet between their lockers with his own, "warning" Farnsworth to stay on his side. "He came and talked to me," Davis said. "We're all good." Said Farnsworth: "Kind of funny."
List of the day: Tall order
RHP Jeff Niemann doesn't stand out quite as much given the collection of tall pitchers in camp. "We've got some talent," he said. "We could run out a starting five."
Pitcher Ht. Wt.

Dane De La Rosa 6-6 245
