Maddon ejected in the fifth inning

Rays manager Joe Maddon has been ejected from Thursday's game in the fifth inning by home plate umpire Jim Wolf.

Maddon had come to the mound to call in LHP Randy Choate, and continued to argue with Wolf - as well as yell towards first base umpire Jerry Meals - over a controversial ball call on a check swing in the previous at-bat. Rangers third baseman Michael Young, facing a 2-2 count, checked his swing and appeared to go through, but after appealing to Meals - it was called a ball; it would have been the third out. On the next pitch, Young hit a three-run homer off RHP Chad Qualls, giving the Rangers a 5-0 lead.

The fans at the Trop began chanting "REPLAY! REPLAY!" during the inning.
