Rays manager Joe Maddon said it was "very unfair" that fans are booing Manny Ramirez over his 1-for-16 (.062)  start.

If anything. Maddon said Ramirez was trying too hard.  "I want the fans to know he works, this man really works, this man really cares,'' Maddon said. "It's not working for him right now, but he's going to be just fine. I think he's at the point of trying too hard right now.''

And Rays CF B.J. Upton said he agreed, that it was "unbelievable" that Ramirez was hearing it.

Can't tell you what Ramirez thought - he left the clubhouse before it was opened to the media.
