Maddon on Lopez bat-flip: "We don't do that here"

Rays manager Joe Maddon plans to speak with veteran INF Felipe Lopez today about how he flipped the bat toward the mound after hitting a home run on Saturday.

"That's not who we are. That's not how we play,'' Maddon said. "I'm not into the end zone demonstration that much. I think we've really morphed into this, I believe, very classy group over the last several years and I want to maintain that kind of thought about us. I don't even want to say image - you think about the Rays, you think these guys handle themselves in a certain way. So, we don't do that here.''

After the game, Lopez said he didn't do it intentionally, that the bat had slipped toward Sox pitcher Chris Sale, and also that he called Sox manager Ozzie Guillen to apologize. Maddon said he heard about the call - "I heard that he had, so I felt better" - and planned to speak to Guillen himself. "We don't do that here,'' he said again.

If the Sox seek to retaliate, Lopez is not in the starting lineup.
