The big news from manager Joe Maddon's morning media session was that he has decided on a No. 1 cut for Thursday's head-shaving.

"I've heard the No. 1 is acceptable,'' he said. "What I've heard is theconcern about the in-grown hair on the totally shaven head, which is a concern.''

The shaving, being done to benefit pediatric cancer, will be memorable, at the least.

"My hair does grow relatively quick,'' he said. "I hope this is not going to put a damper on the reproduction process of my follicles.''
