Mayors issue food challenge

As the Rays enter the playoffs this week at St. Petersburg's Tropicana Field, Mayor Bill Foster, joined by Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard, issued a traditional food challenge to Arlington, Texas' Mayor Robert Cluck, according to a news release issued by the City of St. Petersburg.

"In the unlikely event that the Rays do not prevail against Texas during this week's five-game series," said Mayor Foster, "the three Tampa Bay mayors will send Mayor Cluck a gift basket of traditional Florida gourmet items from Columbia and Cha Cha Coconuts Restaurants, which has  locations in all three cities - at St. Petersburg's Pier, and in Tampa and Clearwater Beach."

The Texas city will be offering a "great taste of Texas" barbecue dinner, featuring hickory smokehouse specialties from Spring Creek Barbeque, a locally-owned restaurant group which has expanded throughout the Lone Star state.

In accepting the Tampa Bay wager, Mayor Cluck said, "I'm giving the Florida mayors an opportunity to back out. We're looking forward to having seafood!"
