McKeeman leaving Rays TV broadcast team
Laura McKeeman has left the Rays TV broadcast team to work for Fox Sports on a national basis.
McKeeman, the reigning Miss Florida and a Top 15 semifinalist in the recent Miss America pageant, has been working PAC 12 basketball games with other assignments to come, and eventually will be based in San Diego.
"Working for Fox Sports National is an incredible opportunity,'' she said. "But I will miss everything about covering the Rays, from talking baseball with Joe Maddon to spending time with the Sun Sports crew and the other media members. It's been a true honor to work in such great company and meet so many loyal Tampa Bay sports fans.''
McKeeman, 24, will spend as much of the next five months in Florida as she can between Fox assignments, fulfilling her Miss Florida duties. The Miss America pageant experience was quite a highlight. "Miss America was a wonderful and life-changing experience that I will cherish forever because I met so man amazing young women from around the country,'' she said.
Fox is expected to make an announcement on her role in the next couple weeks. It's not clear if Sun Sports will replace her on the broadcast, where she worked home games doing pre-, in- and post-game reports. Todd Kalas, who handles the bulk of those duties, will be back for his 16th season.
