Meetings update: Is Carlos Pena a possibility
The Rays are looking to improve their offense without diminishing their defense, and would like a lefthanded hitting first baseman.
That all makes it sound like bringing back Carlos Pena would be a good fit.
But from what agent Scott Boras said Wednesday night, Pena is not likely to come a bargain price, which is probably what it would take for the Rays to be able to do something.
Boras said he has received multiple inquiries on Pena - while acknowledging the market has really yet to to develop - expects Pena to receive multiyear offers.
Pena made $10-million last season with the Cubs, and hit .225 with 28 home runs and 80 RBIs. He played with the Rays from 2007-10, though in his last season hit only .196 with 28 homers and 84 RBIs.
