Morning update: Upton "better," but not ready
A couple of morning notes from Rays camp in Port Charlotte:
* CF B.J. Upton said he is "feeling better" but his lower back remains sore from Wednesday's outfield collision with Desmond Jennings, and he hopes to return to the field before Monday's off-day. He is listed on the travel squad for Satursday's game in Bradenton, but said that could change and he may not play until Sunday. "It's no big deal, just waiting on it to get ready. It's just sore,'' he said. "They said it's just like when you're in a car accident, when everything feels better, it feels better.'' Upton said he hasn't had to go for any x-rays or MRIs.
* OF Matt Joyce said he left Thursday's game because he jammed his left wrist and it was "a little sore" after a slide into second and an attempted diving catch. He said it's not anything of concern, planned a full workout today and expects to play Saturday.
* C Robinson Chirinos remains sidelined indefinitely with a concussion.
* Manager Joe Maddon wants the players to take batting practice the next three days without hats on their newly shaved heads, so the most important item on the clubhouse bulletin board, highlighted in yellow, was this: DO NOT FORGET TO APPLY SUNSCREEN.
