Niemann day to day after being hit by line drive, leaving game
UPDATE, 8:06: The Rays have good news on Niemann, saying he has only a contusion (bruise), was removed as a precaution and is the standard "day to day."
DEVELOPING: Starter Jeff Niemann left tonight's game after being hit on the right upper arm by a line drive in the top of the second.
He didn't appear to be badly injured and threw three warmup pitches, but manager Joe Maddon and staff decided to not have him continue. He had thrown only 12 pitches.
Niemann was replaced by Andy Sonnanstine, who was moved to the bullpen when Wade Davis won the fifth spot in the rotation. Sonnanstine is making his first appearance of the season.
