Niemann leaves game with right ankle bruise
UPDATE, 8:23: Niemann left the game with a right ankle contusion and was headed to an area hospital for what the Rays said were precautionary x-rays.
BREAKING: Starter Jeff Nemann left the game after pitching only one inning due to an injury.
Niemann was struck on the side of the right foot by Adam Lind's ground ball in the first, and after being checked by head athletic trainer Ron Porterfield stayed in the game and faced another hitter for the final out.
But Porterfield apparently did not like how Niemann looked warming up for the second, and he and manager Joe Maddon went to the mound and decided Niemann was done.
LHP Cesar Ramos came in to replace Niemann, who was coming off the best start of his career.
