Niemann leaves games with "right arm tightness"
UPDATE, 5:15: Curiously, neither Niemann nor Maddon would say where in the arm the tightness was, though Maddon also called it soreness. Niemann said something didn't feel right between the third and fourth and one batter was enough as he wanted to be cautious. He said he'll come in Sunday and see how it feels and go from there. He also said no tests or doctor visits were scheduled that he knew of.
UPDATE, 2:40: The Rays said Niemann left with right arm tightness.
BREAKING: RHP Jeff Niemann what seemed to be a successful return from the broken leg that sidelined him for 3 1/2 months on Saturday, for the first 3-plus innings anyway.
But one out in the fourth, Niemann left the game injured again.
There was no immediate word from the Rays, but he looked to be arching his back a bit, prompting a visit from manager Joe Maddon and head athletic trainer Ron Porterfield. And after a brief conversation, Niemann was done, having allowed one hit and striking out four in 3 1/3.
Toronto was also the scene of his original injury.
